The Secret to Recovery: Electric Whole-Body Cryotherapy

Whole Body Electric Cryotherapy

What is it?

Electric Whole-Body Cryotherapy is the process of exposing as much skin as possible to extreme low temperatures in a contained, dry, and SAFE chamber. After just 2-3 minutes, your external skin temperature drops by 30-40 degrees. It may sound scary, but this drop creates a response that provides benefits for anyone suffering from lack of energy, poor sleep, aging skin, anxiety and depression, muscle soreness, or migraines. With customizable music and colorful lights, the few minutes of cold becomes a fun experience!

How does it work?

Once our body temperature drops, blood rushes from our extremities to our core, increasing the oxygen and nutrients within the blood to supply our organs with. This process cleans out any toxins in your body and replenishes them with healthy blood. Our bodies are great at self-healing, but things like age, stress, and injuries can slow us down. Cryotherapy “shocks” us back and resets our system!

Is it safe?

Electric Whole-Body Cryotherapy is 100% safe. Unlike Nitrogen Cryotherapy, there are ZERO FDA warnings, 220+ clinical studies on the benefits and science, no ventilation concerns, no asphyxiation or fainting risks, and no forced air burns. Electric Cryotherapy is the clear way to go for safe and comfortable recovery.

I’m ready! Where can I try it?

Our Electric Whole-Body Cryotherapy chamber is coming soon to the Renaissance Day Spa and Wellness Center, and we are so excited to offer this cool service to the Fayetteville/Ft. Bragg, NC area.

Squeeze Out the Stress and Recover Faster with Compression Therapy

Compression Therapy

Compression therapy has been pivotal in the fitness industry for many years. Professional athletes and active gym members’ alike have been using compression therapy to speed up their muscle recovery time.

But what makes compression therapy special?

Dynamic air compression effectively mimics the muscle pump of the legs and arms, enhancing the movement of fluid and metabolites out of the limbs after an intense workout. Created by a physician bioengineer, the Normatec compression line combines dynamic air compression with a patented pulse massage pattern that employs three key techniques—pulsing, distal release, and gradients. These techniques help to relieve muscle aches, pain and temporarily increase circulation resulting in increased flexibility and range of motion, injury prevention, and accelerated recovery time.

Compression therapy is not just for athletes and active gym goers. Normatec compression boots have a wide-variety of benefits fit for any lifestyle, including:

  1. Improved Circulation

Normatec compression boots employ a patented pulse technology that comfortably squeezes your limbs at intervals, improving blood circulation and treating venous insufficiencies like pain, swelling, varicose veins and even ulcers. This is perfect for those who sit or stand for long periods of time and pregnant women who suffer from swelling feet.

  1. Decreased Recovery Time

Compression therapy helps your body detox inflammation and eliminates lactic acid from your limbs over the course of one session. A process that usually takes your body several hours or even days to accomplish can be reduced to just a few hours of recovery time, perfect for any active lifestyle, including athletes with intense training regimens.

  1. Enhanced Lymphatic Drainage and Waste Removal

Lactic acid build-up fatigues the muscle pre-maturely, meaning it is important to try and flush lactate from your muscles post-workout. As compression boots improve blood flow and circulation following a workout, lactic acid is removed from the muscle faster. This reduces fatigue of the muscle and improves recovery.

Feel the benefits of compression therapy in as little as 10 minutes! To schedule your next compression therapy session, please call (910) 484-9922.

The Evolution of Spa Treatment with Alternative Therapies Series: Nucalm

Alternative therapies and treatments are on the rise due to emerging studies on how they positively affect the human body. People seek out these alternatives because they are dissatisfied in some way with conventional treatment; they see alternative treatments as offering more personal autonomy and control over health care decisions; and (3) the alternatives are seen as more compatible with the patients’ values, worldview, or beliefs regarding the nature and meaning of health and illness.

NuCalm is quickly becoming an alternative therapy favorite because of its proven results for stress and improved sleep quality all without the use of drugs. It uses a specific binaural approach sending signals to your body’s cells to slow down the production of cortisol and adrenaline. Cortisol and adrenaline are known as the stress hormones that are involved in the stress response. When stress levels are not regulated they can become detrimental to our other body processes which could put us at risk of many other health issues such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Digestive problems
  • Headaches
  • Heart disease
  • Sleep problems
  • Weight gain
  • Memory and concentration impairment

This is where NuCalm comes in to help us reduce and cope with our stress levels.

What exactly is NuCalm?

NuCalm can be hard to understand when it is explained in big fancy scientific terms but it’s not as complex as it sounds. NuCalm therapy can be similar to meditation with an enhancing twist. All you have to do is wear a BPD (Biosignaling Processing Disk), light-blocking eye mask, and headphones. The difference between NuCalm and other meditation apps is that NuCalm uses a specific approach with the world’s first patented neuroscience technology (just another fancy word to say, nervous system research technology) to help you clinically balance the ANS (autonomic nervous system) without any use of drugs. It also aids you in attaining a meditative state much quicker and more effectively than if you were to do it on your own. The reason for this is because NuCalm’s technology uses binaural beats coupled with a Biosignaling Processing Disk. Binaural beats are two separate tones perceived by the brain simultaneously at different frequencies and are distributed separately in each ear which causes an auditory phenomenon. BPD (Biosignaling Processing Disk) couples with the music, signaling the body to initiate the NuCalm relaxation process. It does this by releasing the neurotransmitter GABA, which is a naturally occurring chemical messenger that counteracts the damaging effect of the stress hormones, adrenaline, and cortisol. GABA is a neurotransmitter that is contained in the NuCalm disc. It is a naturally occurring amino acid that is the body’s primary inhibitory transmitter which slows down the release of adrenaline. The disc is designed to directly stimulate the production, release, and absorption of GABA by a process known as bio-signaling.

When the disc is placed on the inside of the left wrist, it is activated by the body’s own electromagnetic field (which is one way how cells communicate) and is able to receive its frequencies.

When used in conjunction with Nucalm’s neuroacoustic tracks, the disc acts as a catalyst for the relaxation response, transitioning the body from stress to restoration in minutes.  It slows brain waves into a deeply relaxed state where rejuvenation and recovery can occur.

It essentially aids you when you’re stressed or anxious, however, a decreased action of GABA can contribute to mental health conditions which is why some people have used it as a daily natural supplement. In this case, you don’t need a supplement because it is encoded into the BPD. The BPD is specifically placed on an acupuncture point where your body’s EMF (electromagnetic field) is able to receive frequencies. Those frequencies communicate with your brain to activate your body’s natural relaxation system while interrupting your stress hormones to bring you into that peaceful state. That being said, this treatment simply entails you to lay back, relax and enjoy.

What is frequency healing?

The mainstream media has used music as a form of entertainment and expression but with recent research along with historic records

of ancient civilizations using this tool, scientists have found solid evidence that certain frequencies do indeed have a healing effect on our bodies. The history of frequency/sound healing is deeply rooted in ancient cultures where they strongly believed that sound, frequency and vibration had a  powerful influence on their lives down to the cellular level. The Greek philosopher Pythagoras described music and sound as medicine. Indians and ancient Egyptians used chants while the Tibetan Buddhists used singing bowls and other tools. This led the way to a specific area of study called Psychoacoustics.

According to a study published by the National Institute of Health,

Music is widely used to enhance well-being, reduce stress, and distract patients from unpleasant symptoms. Although there are wide variations in individual preferences, music appears to exert direct physiologic effects through the autonomic nervous system.”

When a certain number of neurons in our brains are fired synchronously they create brain waves. Brain waves are essential to our everyday function because they communicate with our nervous system. They also have an effect on our physical and mental health. The intensity of the electrical activity in the brain wave is measured by Hz (Hertz frequencies).

  • Delta waves (below 4 Hz) occur during sleep
  • Theta waves (4-7 Hz) are associated with sleep, deep relaxation, meditation, and visualization
  • Alpha waves (8-13 Hz) occur when we are relaxed, calm, open-minded, inspirational
  • Beta waves (13-38 Hz) occur when we are actively thinking, problem-solving, etc.
  • Gamma waves (30-100 Hz) compassion, intense learning, problem-solving, spiritual alertness

Our bodies also give electromagnetic pulses that help our hearts effectively pump blood through our bodies. In essence, our whole body operates on certain frequencies; therefore, it can be healed or treated with frequencies as well. “Sound healing is trending up. It’s like where yoga was 15 years ago. People are realizing that sound is a viable medium to address distress, enhance learning, even work with an autistic child.” says Joshua Leeds, the author of The Power of Sound and an expert in the field of Psychoacoustics, the study of the effects of sound on the human nervous system. NuCalm is leading the way towards the future of alternative therapies and healing.

What are the benefits of NuCalm?

NuCalm is heavily associated with brain wave activity and meditation, therefore the benefits of this specific therapy include:

  • Improved sleep
  • Relaxation
  • Muscle repair
  • Immunity builder
  • Improves creativity and cognitive thinking
  • Stress relief
  • Anxiety relief
  • Promotes mental clarity
  • Improved memory and concentration

Is NuCalm safe for everyone?

NuCalm is safe for everyone and can be used by people of all ages. There also haven’t been any adverse effects reported and most people tend to experience positive side effects. You can do NuCalm therapy on its own or combined with our Dry Float Therapy.

Why SPF is Your New BFF

Sunscreen: It’s the best kept beauty secret that’s not really a secret. It’s hard to resist the warm weather once summer rolls around, but over-exposure to the sun can result in serious skin damage, so it’s vitally important to make sure you’re protecting your skin with SPF!

The protection shouldn’t stop when summer ends. Even as the weather begins to cool, sunscreen should be incorporated into your skincare routine every day of the year.

What Makes the Sun Rays So Dangerous?

The sun emits UV rays known as UVA and UVB rays. UVB rays have shorter wavelengths penetrating the outer layer of the skin whereas UVA rays have a longer wavelength and reach deeper into the skin. Overexposure to these UV rays can cause sunburn, premature ageing, wrinkles, and in extreme cases – skin cancer. These UV rays are always present, even when the sun may not be, so SPF is essential in keeping your skin healthy all year round.

Best Sunscreen Practices

No matter your skin tone, you should wear sunscreen. Because sunscreens naturally break down over time, make sure that you reapply your sunscreen every two hours. If you’re swimming or sweating, you’ll need to apply it more often. According to the FDA, “water-resistant” sunscreens maintain their SPF for 40 minutes in the water, while “very water-resistant” sunscreens maintain their SPF for 80 minutes. Remember: even the mildest of sunburns can have damaging effects so it is important to protect your skin.

When in Doubt, Apply More than you Need

Believe it or not, most people do not get the full SPF protection advertised on a sunscreen bottle because they don’t apply enough. To cover your entire body adequately, you need to use one ounce of sunscreen. For reference, that’s about the size of a typical shot glass.

Add an Extra Layer of Protection with Makeup

Many sunscreens wear beautifully under makeup, so there’s no reason to skip this essential step. You can streamline your morning skincare routine by using a moisturizer that also has sunscreen in it. Take your sun protection to the next level by using lip balms with SPF and wearing broad-brimmed hats to protect your head and ears.

The Benefits Are Endless

Sunscreen not only protects your skin from sun damages, the leading cause of fine lines and wrinkles, it also contributes to your overall skin health. Essential proteins in the skin like keratin are protected when sunscreen is applied. These proteins are primarily responsible for keeping the skin smooth and healthy both in appearance and function.

How to Pick the Right Sunscreen

It is recommended that your sunscreen should stay between 30 and 50 SPF. The best sunscreens are also “broad spectrum” meaning it will fully protect you from UVA and UVB rays.

Pevonia Hydrating Sunscreen Broad Spectrum is a silky-smooth, greaseless sunscreen that protects your skin from the sun’s harmful UVA & UVB rays. Enriched with Vitamins E, C, and B, SPF 40 safeguards your skin, counteracts sun damage, and prevents premature aging on your face and body.

Look Better at the Beach: Prepare and Protect Your Skin All Summer Long

Summer is almost here! Are you ready for sunshine and tan lines? This year, spoil your skin and prepare for summer with a body treatment.

Why are body treatments important? Even though the vast majority of our skin sits below the neck, it’s easy to overlook. Body treatments offer a wide variety of health benefits, especially when our clothes come off and we’re exposed to sunshine all summer long.

Better Texture

Skin cells naturally grow in and shed at their own rate, but they don’t always shed evenly. It is normal for someone to have layers of dead skin, causing uneven textures all over the body. Body scrub treatments exfoliate those cells, remove dullness and increase blood circulation, leaving your skin more vibrant and youthful.

Prevents Body Acne

Just like a facial, an exfoliating body scrub treatment clears away toxins and dirt that can clog pores and feed the bacteria causing blemishes. Body treatments open your skin’s pores, leaving it clean, evenly colored and glowing.

Ready to Tan

Body treatments prime your skin to better absorb moisturizer or moisturizing sun tan lotion. Through exfoliation, the skin comes out smoother without blemishes which is a perfect canvas for a smooth and even tanning application. Real or fake, your tan will absorb more evenly and last much longer.

Post-Tan Treatment

A body treatment prepares your skin for summer while maintaining health during the tanning months. Constant exposure to the sun can wreak havoc on the skin, leaving it tougher, loaded with dead cells and unevenly colored. Routine body exfoliation ensures skin tone stays beautiful, even and soft.

Helps Prevent Cellulite

One overlooked advantage to body treatments is the prevention of cellulite. The uneven appearance of cellulite results from fat expanding and pushing up to the skin’s surface. An exfoliating body treatment, especially one that’s coupled with a massage, stimulates circulation of the blood and lymph vessels, preventing the formation of cellulite.
